It is time for another community Crochet Along, and this April Screech is keeping our hooks busy!
What is a crochet along?
A crochet along (CAL for short) is so much fun! At the surface, it is an event where a bunch of people get together and work through the same pattern at the same time! Looking deeper however, it can be whole lot more! A CAL can be an incredible experience, one that enables you to see many different versions of the same design. It also gives the opportunity for real time peer-to-peer assistance as you create, and that is some amazing interactive fun!
Have a problem? Stuck on a section? Simply ask in the crochet along chat and others are able to easily assist as all will be working on the same design! This is a great time and place to step outside your typical comfort zone and challenge your skill a little, while making friends and becoming part of a community of creative minds.
Screech the owl CAL Event Details!
The Screech CAL will kick off in our community Discord on April 6th and run through April 30th! Make sure to head on over, even if you will be sitting out the crochet along event, as you are so very welcome to join in and become a part of our creative crew! It is amazing to watch all the different versions of the same amigurumi shown off with their unique spin!
You will need the Screech the Owl Crochet pattern!
This crochet along can be joined for FREE if you wish to follow the YouTube video tutorial! Choose your view Right hand/ Mirrored Left Hand versions available!
If you prefer to follow written patterns, you can purchase a copy at Etsy, Ravelry, & Lovecrafts! Screech is an intermediate level pattern, with a couple trickier parts. With hands on help during the event he should be much easier to master.
Screech uses Super bulky weight (6) yarn in 3 colors AND cotton Dk (3) in 2.
In super bulky, you are going to want to choose a main color yarn for his body, and main color for his primary feathers, and an accent color. The DK weight will be one color for beak and feet, and then a second for his claws. You will be using a 6.5mm hook for the super bulky and a 2.75mm hook for the dk accents.
Screech uses 24mm safety eyes! I love the ones that you find at Suncatcher Craft Eyes! Her Masquerade eyes especially would make for magical owl accents! You will also need stuffing and stitch markers.
As always, with any crochet pattern, the freedom of choosing yarns is part of the process. These are just what the pattern is created with in regards to yarn weighs to have it create as closely as intended. If you wish to use worsted weight your Screech will be pint size, and there is an alternate foot in the pdf version of the pattern. Worsted screech uses a 4mm hook and 4 colors of yarn. Worsted Weight will look for 13-14mm safety eyes!
